As far as Maritime Security is concerned, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) provides support, assistance and guidance to Member Governments on matters relating to the implementation of the IMO instruments.
The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) entered into force under SOLAS chapter XI-2, on 1 July 2004, and has since formed the basis for a comprehensive mandatory security regime for international shipping. IMO has also adopted a number of guidance documents which are relevant to maritime security.
